Who said traveling was easy?

             I began my journey at three am on May 10th.  I did not have leave for the airport until 4:30 am, but I was so excited for the day that I woke up early. Grandpa drove me to the airport in SLC. I arrived in time to spend the next hour making sure that I had everything. I boarded my plan to Chicago at 6:55 am. I arrived in Chicago to only wait about five hours for my next flight. Because of my father, I was able to be a part of the Red Carpet Club. I walked into the club to notice that it was peaceful and quiet, unlike an airport. The seats were comfortable and the food was great. After four hours of watching the news and watching hulu, I left. Back into the noisy terminal for which I first came. Walking over to the gate I noticed the hundreds of people waiting to board flight. As we took our seats and left the gate, I was finally on my adventure; however, within a couple minutes, we were notified of a mechanical problem. We found another gate, but realized what could have been a simple fix was really a four hour fix.

         After the mechanical issue was taken care of, we were finally off. A couple hours went by when the pilot asked for doctors to come to the front of the plane. No one knew what was happening, but we hoped it did not effect our travel. As we crossed over Newfoundland, out pilot got on the intercom and told us we were going to make an emergency landing. We fly an hour to Newfoundland in order for the person to be taken to a hospital. Besides the medical emergency, we were also notified of another mechanical issue. Our oxygen tanks were running low. Because of this new information we were on the ground for another five hours. Once the issue was fixed, our pilots were not able to fly to London because of the number of hours they had been working. They were given the opportunity to fly us to Boston though.

        We arrived at Boston and got off the plane as quickly as possible. We were told to go to the United Airlines check-in desk, but there was barely anyone there to help all 400 of us. Luckily, I was in the front of the line. Within an hour, I was given a new flight itinerary. Though I did not like it, I was stuck with it. I went to the hotel to freshen up. It was nice being back in Boston. The last time that I had been there was with CVHS choir in 2006. After a couple hours of the hotel, I decided to go change my flight so that I would land Edinburgh in time for the group activity at 3 pm. That is where I am now! I am in the Boston airport waiting for my flight to Newark to begin boarding. From Newark, I fly to Edinburgh, Scotland! Hopefully there are no problems along this journey!

Salt Lake City-----------------------------> Chicago, O'hare----------------->

St. John's, Newfoundland------------------->Boston-------------->

Newark-------------------> Edinburgh, Scotland

 A total of 60 hours of travel. I spent 30 of those 60 hours on planes. I will have been to Chicago, St. John's, Boston, and Newark before I reached Edinburgh. I will have been to two different countries.

  1. So crazy, but glad you are safe and finally there. As Grandpa Russ says "You have a story to tell even before you landed in Europe!"
